Visit by Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Rt. Hon Ian Duncan-Smith MP
It was amazing to have an hour with Iain Duncan Smith and our local MP (Stewart Jackson) on 14th September 2012. As well as presenting Hope into Action we also:
- Encouraged him to continue creating an environment where faith based social action can thrive,
- Asked him to continue protecting benefits to the most vulnerable and
- Pointed out that incentivising employment for ex-offender would be beneficial for society and make savings to the state. (The cost of incarcerating someone is £40,000 per annum)
He also met David Whitlock (lead pastor of Bretton Baptist where Hope into Action started) investors, church volunteers, and visited a house and met 2 of our tenants.
