Hope into Action – Reading
Homelessness in Reading is on the rise. September 2014 saw 9000 households on the waiting list and this is due to rise dramatically by 2016 in part due to the new Crossrail hub being planned for Reading Town. This may be good news for businesses but not for those struggling to get by. House prices are set to rise, which means most people will not be able to afford to rent a home. Reading has a community of over 20 churches and charities who are doing what they can to help. Hope into Action Reading aims to help churches by adding the element of a home. Response so far has been positive and our first church has signed up.
Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West, talks about the acute homeless problem in the area.
